The hoodlums wielded dangerous weapons including guns, knives and machetes.
Debekeme received deep machete cuts on his head and other parts of his body.
Tams Alari, PDP ward agent and secretary of the local government council and Billy Tobiye were beaten to stupor by the rampaging hoodlums.
His Royal Majesty Agbodo Gbaseimo, the traditional ruler of Ekeremor, was also injured during the clash.
Ekeremor is the home town of the minister of state for agriculture, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri.
”The helpless policeman on duty was saved by soldiers who came to his rescue and recovered the arms from the hoodlums. The recovered arms are still with the soldiers. As the assault proceeded, staff of the Governor’s Lodge scampered for safety and the thugs took over the entire community,” An eye witness said.
Debekeme is said to be receiving treatment at an hospital in Torugbene community (Ekeremor local government).
The Billy Tobiye and Tams Alari are also receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Bomadi, Delta state.
