Child Suicide Bomber Kills Nine

A suicide bomber between 10 to 15 years on Sunday, December 20, killed nine people in Benisheikh, Borno state, the Nigerian army has said.

The bomber alongside two others about the same age were said to have been spotted in the location by civilian Joint Task Force under the Borno state youth empowerment scheme at about 8.30 pm on Sunday.
Army sy management agents have been mobilized to the scene.
“The bodies have been evacuated and all thopokesperson, Sani Usman said the civilian JTF on sighting the bomber, suspected something fishy about them when they found out that one of them was strapped with improvised explosive device.
‘While the Civilian JTF was in the process of screening the suspect following the necessary drills and precautions, the carrier detonated the IED,  that led to the death of nine people while 24 others sustained various degrees of injuries,” Usman said in a statement.
He also said that security and emergencse injured are receiving medical attention, the security agencies have intensified patrols and security checks in the area,” he said.
Commiserating with the families of the deceased, Usman called for security consciousness among citizens especially during the festive period.
In the past week, a United Nation’s report said that most of the young people used as suicide bombers by the Boko Haram terrorists are probably unaware that they are going to be blown up.
The UN secretary general’s special representative on children and armed conflict Leila Zerrougui said that 2015 has been a difficult year for children all over the world.
Zerrougui said that children have not only be affected by the terrorists acts but have specially become targets as schools have been attacked and many children recruited various places.
