Gov Umahi Retires All State Permanent Secretaries

Eyebrows have been raised following the sudden retirement of all Ebonyi state permanent secretaries by Governor Dave Umahi.

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state
The retirement was made public via a statement signed by the governor’s Principal Secretary, Clement Nweke, and made available to the media on Sunday in Abakaliki.
The statement also revealed that only the Clerk of the State House of Assembly, Rose Nwokporo would not retired.
The statement reads in part: “The affected officers are to complete all handover exercises in their respective ministries, boards and agencies before the close of work on Monday, November 16.
“All commissioners, heads of parastatals and agencies in the state, are to ensure total compliance to this directive.”

The chief press secretary to the governor, Emma Anya has also calmed fears that the state government house was caught in flames earlier today.
He released a statement which stated that the state government house only experienced an ‘electrical spark’.
The statement reads in part:  “There was an electrical spark in the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Petroleum Products Pricing and Distribution, Bassey Chima.
“No portion of the office was damaged as the SSA was attending the burial of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Sen. Pius Anyim’s mother-in-law, when the incident occurred.
“When Chima was alerted of the incident, he ‘raced’ to Abakaliki and to God’s glory, staff of the government house had `doused’ the effect of the spark”.
Anya also noted that only a photocopier and television set were slightly affected
Umahi is not the only govenor to go with retiring state permanent secretaries. Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state was  to health related issues.
