A lion has escaped from the Jos Wild Life Park today, December 2.
According to John Doy, the acting general manager, Plateau Toursim Corporation, the lion which had been caged since 1972, escaped at about 8am while it was being fed, NAN reports.
He explained that the gate
of the cage had been opened for its routine feeding and that was when the lion slipped through the gate.

“The animal is still within the vicinity of the Park but our fear is that the Park is not fenced.
“We are struggling to recapture it, but we want members of the public to be vigilant,” he said.
The acting general manager said that he had already informed all security agencies to come to the Park’s assistance.
Confirming the news, Naomi Cishak, public relations officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said that the office was aware of the incident.
“We have not been officially informed, but we are aware of the incident; that is why we have not deployed our personnel there,” she said.
Report however came in later that the lion had been found and shot dead within the premises of the park, Vanguard reports.
A staff of the tourism cooperation said: “The lion was sighted within the park premises and shot dead before it could cause any harm to people.
“We are not really having any significant animals in the park. It is the lion and the elephant that attract tourists the most but now that the lion is gone, we are sad because we cannot say exactly when we will have another.
“Since we lost the last hippo some years back, there has not been any replacement. We just pray that this case will be different because tourists may not really be excited if there are no high profile animals in the park.”
In October, there was a lion scare in Ikorodu, a suburb of Lagos state as an animal which looked like a lion was spotted on the fence of a pasta factory.
