There was outrage over the marriage of an eight year old girl in Zaria Kaduna state.
According to an online source, News Monger, the girl who is still
in primary four was handed out in marriage during the weekend to a 14 year old teenager who is reportedly in SS1.
While couples are reportedly now married they are not allowed to engage in intercourse until they finish secondary school.
The young marriage seems to be an arranged marriage and is said to be a usual custom in the region. It is not known however if she would start performing her wifely duties.
The issue of child marriage has however been criticised especially by human rights activist and advocates of the girl child.
