Nigerian football has begun 2016 on a sad note as the Head of Protocol of the NFF, Ibrahim Abubakar, has been reported dead by officials of the glass house.

The NFF statement claimed Abubakar was shot dead by armed robbers in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, January 6, at his Abuja residence.
“NFF’s head of protocol, Ibrahim Abubakar was shot dead by armed robbers in his house in Abuja in the early hours of today,” the football house said on their Twitter handle @thenff. They further confirmed that his body is being taken to his hometown of Kaduna for burial.
The late Abubakar is survived by a wife and three children.
This has come at a delicate time for Nigerian football with the power tussle between NFF president Amaju Pinnick and the Chris Giwa-led faction, and the upcoming CHAN tournament this January where the Super Eagles are pursuing a maiden title.
We wish his family and the entire Nigerian football community the fortitude to bear this untimely loss.
