Desperate Nigerian dad sells his 5-month old son to a crime syndicate for N400,000

Lagos-based trader Okwuchukwu Ibekwe has been arrested for selling his 5-month old son to a crime syndicate in Anambra State, and he claims he got his wife’s consent before carrying out the criminal act.

Punch Newspapers reports that the 28-year-old spare parts seller, who lives in Shinaba Street, Iyana Iba, in Lagos, was unsuccessful as a trader, and to boost his financial status, he opted to hand his son over to a Chinelo, who is currently on the run, for the transaction.

After they exchanged money for the baby, reports claimed that Ibekwe and his wife quarreled as he refused to give her an agreed N150,000 from the money, prompting her to report him to the police. But Mr Ibekwe claims that Chinelo only gave him N250,000 against the initial N400,000.

His wife is also on the run, while Mr Ibekwe is currently in the custody of the Police Gender Unit in Ikeja.

The police are yet to recover the baby.
