ANGRY APC Calls For Arrest Of Sacked Speaker

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Bayelsa state chapter has called on security agents to arrest the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Kombowei Benson, for remaining in office 40 days after an appeal court nullified his election.

The party said Benson should be immediately convicted and committed to prison for disobeying the court order.

The APC also slammed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly aiding Benson in disobeying the ruling on his election.
According to The Punch, the party in a release by its publicity secretary, Panebi Fortune, accused the PDP of promoting undemocratic conducts.
It said it was “undemocratic and dishonourable” for the House to have allowed its Speaker, Mr. Kombowei Benson, whose election was nullified by the Court of Appeal, to remain in office, 40 days after the court’s ruling”.

APC said the illegality could have gone unnoticed but for the efforts of whistle blowers and the legal team of the state APC who unearthed the illegality perpetrated in the House.
The party called on anti-graft agencies to investigate the illegal financial dealings of Benson within the period he disobeyed the court order.
Meanwhile, Samuel Ogbemudia, a former two-time governor of old Bendel state and an elder statesman, 
According to Daily Post, Ogbemudia, who is a member of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) said he regrets that the ongoing crisis in the party had made his continued membership untenable.
The elder statesman in a letter addressed to the national secretary of the party, expressed gratitude for the privileges and opportunities offered him by the party.
