An Isolo magistrate’s court has remanded in prison custody, a 33-year-old man who allegedly raped an 18-year-old girl at a boutique in Itire area of Lagos state.
The suspect, Okechukwu Okere, allegedly went to the boutique located at 125, Lawanson street, in Itire area of Lagos, and there he raped the victim who works as the sale’s person.
According to Breaking Times, Okere pretended that he wanted to buy clothes and shoes, but unknown to the victim, he had another motives.
In her unconsciousness, Okere reportedly pulled her pair of jeans trousers and her underwear and started having sex with her.
It was while he was raping her, that one of their neighbours identified as Innocent Chukwu, opened the boutique shop and raised an alarm.
Chukwu alerted other neighbours who came to the rescue of the victim who was still unconscious.
Okere attempted to escape but was prevented by the residents who apprehended and handed him over to the police at Itire division.
The victim was rushed to a hospital nearby where she was revived from her coma, with injuries to her eyes and private part.
The suspect, in a statement, admitted that he actually raped the victim and said that he did not know what came over him.
Okere who said he lives at 4, Smith Fadairo street in Mushin and hails from Orlu in Imo state, was charged with attempted murder, rape and assault under the criminal code.
When he was arraigned, the suspect pleaded not guilty, but the prosecutor, Mr Oje informed the court that the victim was still lying in critical condition at the hospital because he held her throat tightly until she collapsed and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
The case was adjourned till Monday, February 22, the court denied Okere, and ordered that he be remanded in prison custody.
In the same vein, the police has arrested Musa Ismail, a 32-year-old man, who allegedly robbed and raped his neigbour.Ismail and three other members of his gang, were arraigned on three counts bordering on rape, burglary and stealing.
