UPDATES: Plight Of The Physically Challenged In Abuja

Yahaya Ibrahim, is a physically challenged man who has been sweeping the Kubwa pedestrian bridge since it was constructed over two years ago.
Ibrahim was affected by polio melitus when he was thirteen years old.
Unlike others in his condition who resolve to street begging, Ibrahim said he has been doing this without any payment from the government adding that he has been surviving on donations from good spirited Nigerians who use the bridge.
“I have been sweeping this bridge for over two years now. I am doing this because of God, nobody is paying me not even the government. I am married with a son. We survive on what i get from people everyday. That is what i use to pay my rent and my son’s school fee who is in primary two,” he added.
On what has been his drive, he said: “So many people have discouraged me from doing this but refused because I am happy whenever I see this place clean.”
Ibrahim  said he was a para-soccer player but has stopped going for training because of the poor remuneration. Asked if he had any word for the government, he said: “I want to beg the government to be giving something no matter how little it is so that I can use it take care of my family.”
