The Senate on Tuesday, November 24, inaugurated eleven committees.
They include the Senate committees on health, works, power, housing, federal character territory, marine transport, land transport, aviation, trade and investment, industry and capital market.
While inaugurating the committees, Bukola Saraki, the Senate president said that the members of the committees were selected based on competence.
Also, he expressed confidence in the lawmakers stating that he was sure that they were up to the task.
He also urged the chairmen and vice chairmen not to build a one man show but should let the input of the committee members show in their work.
He said: “This Senate promised that we will be open to all Nigerians and engage them more robustly as we deliver laws with far reaching impact on their lives.
“For us this means having a strong feedback mechanism that is non-discriminatory, direct, open, uninhibited and continuous is equally as important.
“With this launch today, we are saying that we are ready to hear and listen to all Nigerians of goodwill.
“With the suggestion box, which is both physical and virtual, we are saying we are interested in your opinion irrespective of your background, political orientation, social status, gender, religious or ethnic orientation. Be sure that with this, your suggestions, opinions and ideas will not go unnoticed.
“I expect that we will make this eighth senate different and do what is necessary to achieve this.”
Meanwhile, the Senate already inaugurated 28 committees making a total of 39 committees out of 65 standing committees.
Some of these committees include finance, appropriation, banking, navy and defence among others.
The Senate still has 26 committees left for inauguration.
