Following the indefinite closure of Obafemi Awolowo University campus by the school authority, students on campus have been thrown into a state of despair.
The students had embarked on a protest on Monday, November 30 to express their grievances over the inability of the school to provide clean water and the unstable power supply. They reportedly carried placards with inscriptions that the vice-chancellor, Prof. Bamitale Omole was corrupt and should be probed.
On Tuesday, December 1, the school in an apparent move to manage the situation closed the campus indefinitely and ordered the students to leave the campus. In a circular signed by the management, the institution said the school was on a mid-semester break and would duly communicate the resumption date.
Students still in the hostels are however going through a difficult period as the supply of water and power has been suspended. Also, food sellers have vacated the hostel making the purchase of food impossible.
This morning, students were forced to go to a stream close to the hostel to collect water to take their bath and use the toilet. Although a lot of students have left the campus, others for various reasons choose to remain.
A student who spoke to Naij.com anonymously said he has the situation was unbearable and the absence of water makes living difficult. He said he has decided to vacate the school and wait till a resumption date is provided.
