The school authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile Ife, on Tuesday, December 1, closed the institution indefinitely following continued protests by the students, NAN reports.
According to ThisDay, the student had on Monday, November 30, staged a peaceful protest at the entrance of the institution over epileptic power supply, unavailability of portable water supply in their halls of residence making the campus not conducive for learning.
The students who carried placards with an inscription that the administration of their Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bamitale Omole, should be probed by anti-corruption agencies.
Abiodun Olanrewaju, the public relations officer of the university, in an interview with NAN said that the date of resumption would be announced as at when due, adding that the convocation scheduked for next week would still hold.
The executives of the Student Union at the institution have been criticised by students for budgeting N1,837, 550 to make phone calls between the months of August 2015 to January 2016.
The leaders of the student union debated and made the budget proposal known during the OAU student representative council on Sunday, September 13.
