Golden Eaglets celebrate after defeating Mexico in the semi-final of the U-17 world cup
The Golden Eaglets won the FIFA U-17 World Cup in November defeating Mali in the final.
The government says it is depleted and cannot afford any excesses.
Unlike the team that won the U-17 World Cup in 2013, the 2015 set will not be receiving any reward package.
The source said: “The proposal sent to the presidency on what should be given by government as reward to the Eaglets following their victory in Chile has been rejected. Government said it does not reflect the current economic realities.”
The Golden Eaglets were supposed to meet President Buhari on November 29 at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa but they not because the president was out of the country.
In a related development, the president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick has revealed the NFF would take charge of the Golden Eaglets contracts.
Pinnick revealed the legal department of the NFF have begun work on contracts of the players which would be beneficial to the players and their parents.
