UPDATES: Bayelsa Election: Police Nab 10 Suspects, Recover Guns

Reports just reaching us indicate that officials of the Nigerian police force operating in Bayelsa state have made a break through following the arrest of some suspected political thugs.

Hashimu Argungu, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police who is leading the security arrangement in the state regarding the governorship election on Sunday, December 6, announced that 10 suspected political thugs were arrested by his officials for different offenses.
Speaking at the police officers mess, in Yenagoa, he said the apprehended suspects were nabbed for illegal possession of fire arms and other electoral offenses.
The DSP, who is obviously not happy with the turnout of event warned political bigwigs whom are trying to boycott the free and fair process to stay off the areas where elections are rescheduled to hold today.

Argungu went ahead to list the items recovered from the suspects to include five AK47 and one Berretta pistol.
Speaking on the rescheduled elections, the DSP stressed that: “all security agencies have their men on ground in Southern Ijaw and other few places where elections could not take place yesterday.”
Argungu also clarified that the order for the restriction of movement still stand in the affected local councils where election are billed for today.
“We have two commissioners of Police, two Brigade Commander, 5 battalion Commander and Deputy Commander of NSCDC already on ground to ensure safety of lives and property in that area. Nobody should entertain fear as security is guaranteed,” he said, just as he emphasised that “Security agencies are ready and NOBODY should take us for granted.”
Meanwhile, the atmosphere in Bayelsa state has been very intense as it was reported that members of staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission deployed to distribute electoral materials at Sagbama local government area of the.
