England striker Jamie Vardy has broken former Manchester United star Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s Premier League record by scoring in an 11th consecutive top flight game.
Vardy broke the record in the 24th minute of Leicester City’s game against Manchester United to put his side 1-0 up in a top of the table clash.
His goal came after he was picked out by Christian Fuchs after a nice counter attack play from the foxes.
Vardy’s record-breaking strike was however cancelled out by Schweinsteiger on the stroke of half time.
The German headed home Daley Blind’s corner to level the scores just before half-time whistle.
However, Vardy has netted 13 goals on his current run and is the Premier League’s top scorer so far this season with 14 goals overall.
Taking to Instagram to congratulate Vardy on his new feat, former record holder Ruud Van Nistelrooy wrote: “Well done vardy7! You’re number one now and you deserved it.”
In May 2012, Vardy signed for Leicester City in the Football League Championship for a non-league record transfer fee of £1 million, and represented the club in the Premier League after winning the Championship in 2014. Vardy made his international debut for England in 2015.
